Aaron Durr has a natural sophistication that oozes from this piano man whose excellent voice can deliver both a chesty resonance and a gliding falsetto, as if two singers are at work. We can’t decide which tune we like more, “Smart Girl” or “Shaken.” The former rides a solid mid-tempo groove that never quits, and the latter’s catchy chorus is a winner in a tale of a troubled relationship. “Double Crosser,” however, can’t overcome its trite, formulaic blueprint. A competent keyboardist, Durr has a quality to his vocals that has made him a popular piano bar performer, and it is clear he’s cut out for something better. For his recordings, we suggest he boost the energy of his restrained backups––except for the guitarist, who shreds!

Come Back Lover
Writers: Michael James Marchesano, Aaron Durr
Tell me everything will be okay
I want to hold you, but I can’t today
I fight the feeling, but I’m stuck at home
I try to tell myself I’m not alone
Come back lover, find your way
Come back home to yesterday
Our empty place reminds me
The weather today will eventually break
So I’ll shelter in our space
And I’ll imagine your embrace
Pretend that everything’s okay
Turn off the TV ‘cause they’ve all gone mad
It might be funny if it weren’t so sad
Outside my window is the Twilight Zone
You’re out there somewhere, too—you’re not alone
Come back lover, find your way
Come back home to yesterday
Our empty place reminds me
The weather today will eventually break
So I’ll shelter in our space
And I’ll imagine your embrace
Pretend that everything’s okay
Come back lover, find your way
I hear your voice before I even dial
I see your picture and it makes me smile
But any hour we spend on any phone
It doesn’t help the fact we’re still alone
Come back lover, find your way
Come back home to yesterday
Our empty place reminds me
The weather today will eventually break
So I’ll shelter in our space
And I’ll imagine your embrace
Pretend that everything’s okay
Come back lover, find your way
